Keeping the Stress Out of Your Next Move

Tips for Truck Rentals

Whether you are renting a vehicle for a personal move of if your business is relocating, the stresses of moving is all but guaranteed. These days people are always moving, that’s why we’ve begun offering rental trucks at Mason’s Automotive in Port Orange, Florida.

Truck Rental Made Easy

Through trial and error from our own moves and watching our customers, we’ve come up with a list of ways you can take the headache out of your truck rental experience. Some of our methods relate to planning in the weeks prior to your move, and some are essential to follow on the day of:

  1. Truck Size:  You may know pretty early on how much space you are going to need for this move.  For smaller areas, like a two-bedroom apartment, a 12-foot truck will most likely be enough to handle what you have.  Larger trucks from 16 to 24 feet are more suitable for homes and larger buildings.  Here we’ll add that you should choose a truck you feel comfortable driving.  Once it is full of your belongings, trucks drive differently, so you’ll want to be confident behind the wheel.
  2. Rental Rates:  Once you know the truck size, you can start researching different rental options to find the best rate for you.  Consider that some rates go by the amount of time you have the truck, some go by miles used, others have combined rates, so it’s best to make sure you look at various options.
  3. Insurance:  Rental companies will also be able to offer insurance.  This covers the truck and also the contents, your contents, against accidents or damage.
  4. Moving Equipment:  Ask the rental company about moving equipment or acquire your own.  Take a look at what you will be moving, and where you will be moving it.  Will you encounter a lot of stairs on this move, or are there ramps where you can use a dolly?  Do you have pictures, mirrors, and other fragile objects that will need packing materials or blankets to protect them?
  5. Visual Inspection:  Before signing your rental agreement on the day, take a moment to look over the truck.  Moving trucks, more so than normal rental cars, undergo a lot of damage.  They’ll have more dings and scuffs from large furniture and moving materials, so make sure you and the truck rental agent both assess the condition of the truck before you take possession.
